Who:
Amy Ellen Trefsger and her creative alter-ego Flatchestedmama.
What:
An event much like a wedding, there were Matrons of Art (brides
maids), pronounced vows, a legal name change, a reception,
a cake and a honeymoon. The Matrons of Art were women who
had heavily influenced and assisted my creative growth to
date. The vows outlined creative exploration and growth throughtout
the duration of my life (no matter how large or small). The
legal name change united my birth name with my creative name.
When:
September 18th, 2004.
Where: The ceremony and reception
were held at the Center on Contemporary Art in Seattle, WA.
Why: I
need boundaries. I write goals on a daily basis. One might
call it a to-do list but I feel a sense of accomplishment
when items are checked off the list: Done. This public declaration
of commitment to my creative self parallels a wedding to demonstrate
lifetime commitment. I will renew and/or re-write vows on
a yearly basis to allow for an annual evaluation of artisic
exploration. This is a template, I am moving forward with
intention.
