Love Poems to Sailors

In the Love Poems to Sailors series, I flirt with men of the sea by pointing out the sexual innuendoes and double entendres that exist within the International Code of Signals (ICS). The ICS is a maritime communication system that uses signal flags to convey messages regarding safety in navigation and other related matters.

The series is ongoing and mostly came together between 2011 and 2014. It consists of self portraits (taken on the street during Fleet Week and in the studio) as well as watercolor and acrylic paintings. For most of the paintings, I collected seascape paintings from thrift stores and added to them. I had a show of the paintings in 2014 at Two Bells Bar and Grill. Below are a select few from the series:
